*Giggles in a thoroughly unmanly fashion*
These "public officer" (magistrate / police officer / EMT / other) blogs really are very good. I recommend anyone who doesn't already read them and doesn't mind losing a month of free time go out and plow through them. |

| Rain |
[May. 14th, 2009|08:49 pm] |
My god do I love this weather. Always have done. Both being out in it and staying in when it's raining.
I love the sound of it. The feel of it on my head and torso. I love that other people think it will dissolve them if they go out in it, and so don't dick around over the road, playing bad music too damn loud and trying to intimidate me just because I don't wear a hoodie and have long hair.
And I feel sad when it ends. |

| Heather's Birthday party thing |
[Apr. 12th, 2009|06:56 pm] |
I'm reposting this from Facebook as I don't know everyone on Facebook.
Right kids, Heather turns 24 on the 20th April. As many people will probably be otherwise engaged on the weekend on the 18th / 19th, we're throwing a party on the 25th.
So, come on over, have some drinks and kick back.
The address, as last year, hasn't made it onto google maps, but is roughly found at this location:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=2
Heather isn't online much these days, so if you have any questions or whatnot, text her (07795 000970) or me (07986 942681) or Facebook message me. |

Lifted from captain_magpie and tehexile
- Describe me in one word... just one single word. Positive or negative.
- Leave your word in a comment before looking at what words others have used.
-Then copy and paste the meme to your journal to find out how people will describe you when limited to one word. |

| Flicking through some biographies on last.fm whilst on a break |
[Jan. 27th, 2009|03:33 pm] |
From the W.A.S.P. biography
"W.A.S.P. became a very prominent target of the Parents Music Resource Center, an organization led by Tipper Gore and dedicated to opposing music with lyrics deemed violent or sexual. This pushed the band’s reputation to such bad levels that concert halls were getting bomb threats, band members were getting written death threats by the hundreds, and singer Blackie Lawless had been shot at twice (albeit without getting hit)."
Not sure if that is a causative link, but if it was I would be so torn between seeing the (very) funny side and being completely horrified. Either way (and even if the link isn't direct), there's probably a lesson to be learned by those who would censor music. |

| Thought for the day |
[Dec. 23rd, 2008|09:52 am] |
Clearly, I've missed the point of wrapping paper. It is clearly not necessary to be able to stick the stuff together with tape, or any other adhesive (I tried three different types). All that matters is it is shiny.

| Always late getting in on a fad |
[Dec. 9th, 2008|11:25 am] |
The craze for it already has been and gone on the internet, but yesterday I decided to get in on Twitter. I've often felt like saying stuff, but it felt like it was too everyday for an LJ post. Hence the Twitter.
However, turns out I don't know anyone who uses it. So, I'm putting this notification post out here: if you feel like reading about me talking about my day, or how much I love toast*, then come on in.
Otherwise, I'm just going to be talking to myself.
*: Actually, I can't stand the stuff. Feels and tastes like I'm eating sandpaper. But I might talk about how much I don't love toast. |

I have only just stopped being weirded out by this |

I never thought that my batteries would be boosted and my faith in science restored by me putting the right reagent in my cultures.
I'm easily pleased, I know. |

| Music stuffs |
[Sep. 21st, 2008|09:43 am] |
After months with no activity, my gig schedule is starting to look up.
Airbourne in November, Levellers in December, both playing at the Octagon.
On a different musical note, I'm slightly concerned that various online shops have started to note my changing tastes in music and are now frequently trying to sell me "Worlds Coolest Dad" compilation CDs. Must be all the Boston, Poison, Journey, REO Speedwagon and Def Leppard I've been listening to. |

| Software problems |

Either the bit of NMR software I'm working with is pants-on-head retarded, or I am.
I haven't quite worked out which it is yet... |

Possibly the worst way to wake up to your alarm clock on a Monday morning is to wonder why you'd set it at the weekend. This sort of thing has been happening a lot as of late |

| Relief |
[Jul. 24th, 2008|08:35 am] |

Never before have I been so glad that my work today doesn't involve looking at a beat up CRT monitor for hours at a time. Yesterday had my brain threatening to punch the backs of my eyes. |

| Gah! |
[Jun. 23rd, 2008|01:00 pm] |
And so we find yours truly stuck in a rut again. This time due to the fact that the lab has run out of *generic scientific reagent essential for my next experiments*.
Normally I would be able to find a way around this situation, but as of late I have mostly been working by momentum. All is well and good until the smallest snag is hit, then I derail and need to realign and restart. Snags are fairly commonplace in the life of a postgrad (or indeed, any research scientist), so I clearly need to work out a solution to this sooner rather than later. |

| Just a little while longer |
[Jun. 13th, 2008|09:28 am] |
| [ | Currently rockin' out to: |
| | Street Dogs - You Alone | ] | I've not been in work for the last couple of days: life outside of the lab took over a little bit, and I found myself dealing with the end of contract process on two different houses. This has lent itself to me having to shuttle back and forth across town between Crookes, Infirmary Road and Norfolk Park. Tiring, but necessary.
Now I can see an end in sight. Heather's place should be cleared up and handed over this weekend. One last push is called for, with a cleaning check today and keys handed over soon. Should be painless, but I've learned that what things "should" be isn't always what happens. I'm just hoping I don't run into a situation where I get so frustrated I feel the urge to force feed someone cleaning products.
At least next week we'll have permanently removed one cause of stress.
Time to make a move. |

| Not the easiest post I've ever composed |
[May. 21st, 2008|08:48 am] |
As the subject says, this post won't be the easiest ever written. Not by a long shot. I fully expect to break off several times and have to return to it a short while later. But it needs saying, and I've intended to inform y'all about it for a fair while.

I'm told that normally postgrads don't develop a thousand yard stare and a hunted look until midway through the second year. |
